Spoken directions for the West Beach / Cranberry Lake spur at Deception Pass.
Turn off here for the West Beach side of the park, and let me walk you through it, because this little spur road has a couple of junctions and no signage you can read at speed.
Come off the main highway at the park entrance and follow the road in. Stay on the main park road as it curves — you will pass the entrance station, so have your Discover Pass or be ready to buy one. Keep following the signs for West Beach and Cranberry Lake; the road bends right and runs west, with the lake appearing on your left through the trees.
There is a fork partway in. Left takes you along Cranberry Lake to the picnic area and the boat launch; right carries on to the West Beach parking, which is the big lot at the end with the restrooms and the beach access. If in doubt, keep right for the beach — that is where this branch ends.
The whole spur is under two miles, so it is a short run in and back out again the same way. Watch your speed through here: it is twenty-five miles an hour, there are pedestrians crossing between the lake and the beach constantly in summer, and there are deer in the trees at dusk.
When you are done at the beach, come back out the way you came to rejoin the main highway.
