South Falls leaves the ledge as a smooth glassy sheet, holds that shape for a heartbeat, then comes apart into lace and spray about halfway down, and on a bright day the rising mist throws a low rainbow that shifts as you move. But the real prize is where the trail goes next: it ducks down and disappears behind the water itself, into the hollow scooped out behind the falls, so you stand inside the curtain and look out through it. The first of four walk-behinds on the loop, and the view from back there is the one you'll be telling people about. Take the slick steps slow.
