Hazel Mountain Overlook

Hazel Mountain Overlook

The story

Hazel Mountain Overlook, at mile 33.0, has granodiorite boulders along its outer edge that visitors can climb for the view. The park names it as a place to stand beside the oldest rock in Shenandoah. Old Rag is in the view from the top of the boulders. Buck Hollow Overlook is next door, a wide place in the road that's easy to miss.

Tall vehicles, pull in at this overlook, on your right, and turn around. The tunnel ahead is twelve feet eight inches. If you miss this lot, Tunnel Parking Overlook is your last chance, also on your right. Everyone else, Hazel Mountain Overlook has boulders of the park's oldest rock along its edge, over a billion years old.
