Rustic Depression-era log cabins and a timber dining hall, now an Environmental Learning Center rented to school groups and scout troops. Drive it slow, the campus isn't open to wander, toward the quiet old-growth beyond.
Roll it slow through here — those low log cabins tucked under the firs aren't yours to wander into. This is the Environmental Learning Center, the old Cornet Bay retreat campus: a cluster of rustic cabins and a timber dining hall, much of it raised by hand back in the Depression-era days when crews built half this park. Today it's rented out — school groups, scout troops, families who book the whole place for a weekend. So picture a cabin full of fifth-graders on their very first night away from home, flashlights under blankets, the dark woods pressing in close, an owl somewhere out over the water. The pavement keeps going past the last cabin, easing toward the quiet old-growth at the end of the road.
